A1 Island Graphic

Survivor: G201 Edition

As leader of the island, I had assigned six divisions and also a set of 10 rules to keep everyone alive. The divisions are explorers, farmers, hunters, innovators, recycle, and security. What I would first do is hold a community meeting and give my first orders. The explorers will wander into the unknown island to learn and scope out the background of this land and report back to me. The innovators will start building shelter and supplies from surrounding resources such as tree logs and palm leaves. The hunters will set out and look for fresh water, animals, and editable plants. The farmers will get started on amending the land so when the hunters and explorers come back with seeds/plants they will be ready for planting. The recycle division will establish a trash system similar to the three trashcan black, green, and blue ones we had before we got here. Lastly the security team will decide the four points where they will be stationed to guard and protect the islanders. While they go off and do their tasks, I am coming up with plans for rescue. My plans are to make a huge SOS on one side of the beach with tree logs from the forest and gather even more wood to use for signal fires. The rescue plan wont only be about waiting fro someone to come and save us so I had also instructed the innovators to build a boat for exploration travel to search for nearby inhabitants. For the uncertain amount of time, I will lead the islanders by hosting daily meetings to discuss priorities within the divisions so that as a whole we progress toward a civilized functioning community. Those who do not contribute will be outcasted and punished into isolation by being tied to a tree. All the food will be distributed after the community dinner so that everyone has something to last the next day with as they work until dinner time which is before sunset. Both the farmers and the hunters prepare dinner and the rest clean and wash up themselves and the shelters.

Macbeth Final

Humans are easily tempted by things even if it's wrong. In the play, Macbeth is told by witches of his prophecy that one day he shall become king of Scotland. Driven to become king, Macbeth murders King Duncan and takes the throne himself. His pursuit for power turns him into once a loyal and valiant soldier to a murderous tyrant. This crime has him going in a downward spiral as he reaches to the top. At the time cheating seemed liked the best way to execute the prophecy, but it only makes you repeat your crimes. People say finish what you started and doing it wrong from thee beginning forces you too keep it that way till it no longer works outs and you become not so great anymore.  Macbeth by WS shows us that once you cheat, you continue to cheat because its a quicker solution toward achieving your goals.

Behind every great man is a great woman. From the beginning when Lady Macbeth was informed of his fate, she realizes that the murder of the king is the quickest way to achieve the destiny that her husband has been promised. "You are too tender hearted to take shortcuts. You want greatness. You are not without ambition. But you lack the ruthlessness that's needed" (1:5 15-20) Lady Macbeth belittles him for not being able to murder, threatening to take her love away. This threat wins him over and Lady Macbeth discusses her plans to kill King Duncan in his sleep while staying at their castle. "Where's that knocking? What's happened to me, that every noise scares me? Whose hands are these? They're plucking my eyes out! Is there enough water in the oceans to wash my hands of this blood? No! More likely my hands will stain the vast green seas blood-red." (2:2 58-63) Haunted by what he has done, Macbeth is once ever more directed by his wife. Lady Macbeth tells her husband that a little water will wash away their guilt and the two retire to their bed. With the news that the king has been killed, his sons flee the country leaving Macbeth to be crowned King of Scotland.

After his quick ascension to the throne, Macbeth begins to fear those around him who show any kind of threat toward his kingship. Recalling the witches second prophecy, he orders the murder of his fellow soldier Banquo and his son Fleance.
"Quit my sight! Back to your grave! Your bones are marrow less, your blood is cold. You have no power of seeing in those glaring eyes!" (3:4 95-98) At a celebratory banquet that night, Macbeth is thrown into a state of horror when the ghost of the murdered Banquo appears at the dining table. Again, his wife tries to strengthen Macbeth, but the strain is clearly beginning to show. " I've almost forgotten the taste of fear. There was a time when shrieking in the night would have turned me cold. Groans would have raised my hair as if alive. I've had my fills of horrors. Ghastly sounds and sights are commonplace in my murderous thoughts. They can't shock me anymore." (5:5 11-15)
With the struggle for power, he yet again also orders the deaths of Macduffs family. His hallucinations worsen as it reflects his increasing guilt he feels for committed so many murders. This affects his judgement by not caring when he hears of his wife's death, and even fighting in battle against King Duncan's sons where he ultimately dies in the end.

Goal setting is essential to living a purposeful life. It is important that these goals benefit both you and others in positive ways and that the journey toward the end is fair because you deserve it more when you put personal hard work and determination reaching the goal. Once you cheat others and yourself, you do it again because of the fast progress made. Cheating seems like a quicker way but it has its consequences like any other action. Like Macbeth, we see his change in character and how his fate ended him because of his lust for the crown in which he didn't deserve. It is best to be true to yourself and others all the time to avoid this type of tragedy that Macbeth went through.

Act 4-5

1. What does the decision to murder Macduff's family show about Macbeth?
Macbeth's decision to murder Macduff's family shows that his human conscience is completely lost for he has committed to so much murders to extend his life span on the throne.

2. What is the purpose of the scene between Lady Macduff and her son?
The purpose between the scene between Lady Macduff and her son is to show the emotions and struggles of a King's family who has been left behind and soon to be killed.

3. How does Malcolm test Macduff?
Malcolm tests Macduff by faking the idea that he is ruler because of lust and desires and if Macduff agreed Malcolm would consider Macduff a traitor.

4. How does Macduff receive the news of his loss?
Macduff receives news of his loss from Ross who tells him that his wife, son and servants, anyone found, is dead. This message was received during the prepping of war against macbeth. This encouraged Macduff to go after and kill Macbeth as revenge for killing his family.

1. Does Lady Macbeth's mental condition come as a surprise or was this possibility part of her character from the beginning? Explain
It wasn't a surprise because she was easily fooled into becoming queen by murdering others for the throne. I think the burden of carrying the secret of killing Duncan built up so much guilt in her that it took over and that she couldn't take it anymore which led to her crazy night shenanigans baffling about that night.

2. Who or what do you think is ultimately repsonsible for Macbeth's death? Give reasons.
Macbeth is responsible for his own death because he believed in the witches prophecy, let lady Macbeth influence him, killed others, and chose to fight Macduff in the end which led to his own downfall.

3. What do you think is Shakespeare's opinion of Macbeth? Lady Macbeth? Explain.
Shakespeare depicts Macbeth as a coward and lady Macbeth as a wife who just wanted the best for her husband and herself.

4. How does Macbeth receive the news of his wife's death?
As he is preparing for battle, he hears the sounds of cries from women and asks why they're crying and his servant responds saying that it is because lady Macbeth has died.

5. How does Macduff reveal Macbeth's doom?
Macduff enters the room with Macbeths head on a pole and announces that it is all over now and that Malcolm is next in line for the throne.

6. What is the significance of Malcolm's ascension to the throne?
Malcolm's ascension to the throne shows that the crown is returned to the kingdom the family Macbeth had taken it away from.

"Out, damned spot! Out, I say! One. two. Why, nows the time to do it now.---- Hell is murky!----Control yourself, my lord! A soldier, and frightened? Why should we fear who knows it, when no one can challenge our authority? Yet who would have thought the old man would have had so much blood in him?" 5-1-31-pg.175

"What you have said may be true. This tyrant, whose very name blisters our tongues, was once thought honest. You loved him well. He hasnt touched you yet. Im young, but by betraying me you could do yourself some good. its wise policy to sacrifice a weak, poor, innocent lamb to appease an angry god." 4-3-10-pg.155

"If I were king, id execute the nobles for their lands and desire this mans jewels, that man's house. The more i had, the more id hunger for - so much so, id invent unjust quarrels against the good and loyal, and destroy them for their wealth." 4-3-78-pg. 159

"Now he feels his secret murders sticking on his hands. Now, every minute revolts his crimes. Those he commands obey him from duty, not love. Now he feels his royalty sagging him, like a giant's robe on a dwarfed sized thief." 5-2-17-pg.179

"There was a time when shrieking would have turned me cold. Groans would have raised my hair on end as if alive. I've had my fill of horrors. Ghastly sounds and sights are commonplace in my murderous thoughts. They cant shock me anymore." 5-5-10-pg.191

"Life drags on from day to day to the end of time. All our yesterdays have merely lighted the way for fools to reach their graves. Out, out, brief candle. Life is but a walking shadow, a wretched actor who poses and rages for a short time on the stage and then is heard no more. It is a tale. told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing." 5-5-17-pg.191

Macbeth Act 2 Review

1. In your opinion, is Lady Macbeth a cold-blooded murderer? Why or why not?
Lady Macbeth isa cold-blooded murderer because she had no problem killing the two servants and also said that if Duncan didnt look like her father while he was asleep, she would have also killed him herself.
"I left the daggers ready. He couldnt miss them. If Duncan hadnt looked like my father in his sleep, I'd have done it myself. 2-2-10-pg.73
"Coward! Give me the daggers! Sleeping and dead eople are like pictures of themselves.Only children fear a picture, even of the devil. If he's bleeding, I'll smear the faces of the servants so it will look as if they did it." 2-2-53-pg.73
2. Lady Macbeth has her own antics throughout the play. Why does Lady Macbeth faint in Act II?
Does it serve its purpose? Explain.
Lady Macbeth acts as if she had fainted in Act 2 to fool the others into thinking that she and Macbeth are innocent. Like any usual lady response to hearing a murder had occurred while asleep, it should immediately sicken one's stomach, so which is why its strategically where lady Macbeth fakes her stunt. This helps decrease the chances of both being suspected for Duncans murder.

"Lets return to our bedroom. A little water will wash all traces of the deed. Then it will be easy. Youve lost youre nerve! Listen- more knocking. Put on your nightgown, in case we're called, and seen to be out of bed. And dont get so lost in thought! 2-2-66-pg.75

"Whats the matter, that such a fearful  alarm should summon our guests from sleep? Speak, Speak!" 2-3-85-pg.81

"Oh, no1 What? In our house?" 2-3-94-pg.83

3. How does Macbeth's attitude toward Duncan change after the murder?

Macbeth regrets his actions and ultimately feels guilty for the lie he is about to be caught up in.

"I wont go back! Im afraid to think of what Ive done. I darent look at it again! 2-2-51-pg. 73

"Whats happened to me, that every noise scares me? Whose hands are these? Theyre plucking my eyes out! Is there enough water in the oceans to wash my hands of this blood? No! More likely my hands will staian the vast green seas blood- red." 2-2-58-pg.73

"If I had died an our before this happened, I'd have lived a blessed life span. From now on, theres nothing left worth living for. Everything is a sham. Honor and dignity are dead. the wine of life has gone. Only the dregs remain." 2-23-98-pg.83

4. If so pressuring on Macbeth, why didn't Lady Macbeth kill the king instead of Macbeth?

Lady Macbeth didnt kill the king instead of Macbeth because she wants him to step up and do something to prove his worthy of owning the throne by taking it away from the current ruler. Since Macbeth is the one who killed Duncan, he wont be able to back out so easily since he was the one who committed the crime. This gives Lady Macbeth the advantage of being the boss.

"Are you afraid to match your actions with your ambitions? Can you want the glittering prize - the crown - yet be a self confessed coward?" 1-40-42-pg. 57

5. Now that Macbeth has killed the king, do you think he must do anything else to reign as king? Explain your answer.

I think Macbeth will still have to do unmoral things to reign as king after this crime he had committed because others will find out the truth or he will fear more often and will  have to get rid of them before the they reveal it to take him out of reign.

Dialectical Journal Entries

  • "There were no longer any questions of wealth, of social distinction, and importance, only people all condemned to the same fate-still unknown."
  • Why. but why should I bless him? Every fiber I rebelled. Had had thousands of children burned in his pits? Because he kept six crematories working night and day,on Sundays and feast days? Because his great might had he created Auschwitz, Birkenau, Buna, and so many factories of death?"
  • "What are you, my God," I thought angrily, "compared to his afflicted crowd, proclaiming you to their faith, their anger, their revolt? what does your greatness mean, lord of the universe, in the face of all weakness, this weakness, this decomposition, and this decay? Why do you still trouble their sick minds, their crippled bodies"
